Drs Aikaterini Kafetzidou was awarded with the best speech prize on Palaeopalynology of Società Botanica Italiana during Mediterranean Palynological Societies Symposium 2021 (MedPalynoS 2021) with the work entitled:
Vegetation patterns in the Corinth Rift Area through successive climatic cycles of Quaternary: evidence from the IODP 381 pollen assemblages, by Aikaterini Kafetzidou, Eugenia Fatourou, Konstantinos Panagiotopoulos, Fabienne Marret, Katerina Kouli
Within the QECCoRA project two photographic atlases were prodused: Dinoflagellate cyst & green algae and Pollen & NPPs
The success of every palynological study mostly depends on the initial chemical treatment of the samples conducted in the laboratory. The laboratory protocol followed to extract the pollen, dinoflagellates and other palynomorphs from the sediment, consists of a series of steps that aim to dissolve its inorganic phase. QECCoRA established and applied a novel laboratory treatment protocol for the processing of palynological samples from high sedimentation rate deposits.
